Women's Soccer Wins Third in a Row, Beats Spring Hill 4-0

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Florida Southern women's soccer team concluded its two-game road trip at the 2021 Bobcat Kickoff Classic with a third consecutive victory, this time dispatching the Badgers from Spring Hill College, 4-0.

With Monday's win, the Moccasins are off to one of their best starts in recent history. Southern's perfect 3-0-0 record is its best since opening with five straight wins during the fall of 2007.

In Their Own Words
Head Coach Paul Lawrence when asked about
"It's always tough to win two games on the road, but we're happy with the team's performance in the second game of a tough road weekend. The first two goals were crucial in getting us going, so those were certainly important moments. Looking forward to getting back in front of our fans for two tough games this weekend."

How It Happened
  • Florida Southern's first goal was scored on a penalty kick in the 18th minute. After a foul in the right corner of the box was assessed to Spring Hill, Rachel Peck lined up for the PK. It was a rather easy shot for the senior from Bozeman, Montana. Goalie Hannah Linss took a quick step to her right, which provided plenty of room for Peck to tap it into the opposite side of the net.
  • The score remained 1-0 FSC, until the Mocs broke through with a late offensive outburst before halftime. Florida Southern scored twice in the final two minutes before the break to widen the gap to 3-0.
  • In the 44th minute, Meghan Kriney tallied the first goal of her collegiate career. The sophomore was set up by a long pass from Brooke Lowery and a quick flick off the heels of Claire Duree.
  • A mere 71 seconds later, Courtney Chomko finished a cross from Kriney with a left-footed shot into the lower left corner of the cage.
  • Chomko did it again in the 57th minute, a play that began as the Lake Villa, Illinois, native hustled to prevent the ball from going out of bounds along the end line. Chomko circled back to the top of the six-yard box, fired the ball into traffic, and received a lucky bounce off the heel of a Badger defender.

Inside the Numbers
  • For the second time this season, Florida Southern registered over 30 shots in a game. Against the Badgers, the Mocs logged a season-high 34 shots versus only two from Spring Hill.
  • Southern's 13 corner kicks on Monday were a single-game season-high.
  • FSC has now outscored its opponents 13-0 through the first three games of the 2021 campaign.
  • 13 goals are the most in a three-game span for Florida Southern since matching that feat in October of 2008.
  • Chomko and Kriney each recorded their first-ever goal against Spring Hill, while the former picked up her first multi-goal game as a Moc.
  • Junior keeper Jenny Staten didn't break much of a sweat, but needed to make one save for her third clean sheet in a row.
