Esports Claims First-Ever Peach Belt Conference Rocket League Championship

FLORENCE, S.C. – Casey Freudenthal, also known as Kabit in game, scored the championship-winning goal in overtime of game 7 as Florida Southern captured the inaugural Peach Belt Conference Rocket League tournament title on Saturday night in Florence. The Moccasins edged Lander 4-3 in the second championship final after the Bearcats forced the 'if necessary' game.

Lander led 3-2 after five rounds of the championship, but FSC came back with two 1-0 wins to take the title. Freudenthal supplied both goals, winning game six with 17 seconds left to play and then game seven with his overtime winner.

Lander advanced to the tournament finals after being swept by Florida Southern 3-0 in the winners' bracket semifinals earlier on Saturday. The Bearcats then defeated #2-seed Kennesaw State to earn their way back to the championship round where they would have to face FSC twice.

Lander took the first match 4-1, winning the third game in overtime. The championship rounds were best-of-seven with all other matches best-of-five.

Florida Southern was in cruise control all the way to the final round with a 3-0 mark in the tournament, their only test a 3-2 win over Missouri Western in the second round. The Mocs entered the tournament as the #1 seed, having gone through the PBC regular season undefeated. The loss to Lander in the first championship match was their first to any conference team all season long.

The championship brings an end to the first season of Rocket League in the Peach Belt.
