LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's tennis team opened their spring 2022 dual meet season against No. 10 Lynn University Friday afternoon. The Fighting Knights won the match 5-2.
The Mocs (0-1) were unable to get the doubles competition point, but still managed event wins and a promising start to the spring season.
Isabella Bolivar and
Minnie Kim had the singles event wins for the Moccasins. Lynn (2-0) won four singles matches and two of the three matches in doubles play.
In doubles competition the Mocs won the first pairing after a 6-3 win by
Flor Salerno and
Maxima Ellenberg. Florida Southern lost their next pairing for a 1-1 tie in doubles. The sole doubles point came down to a battle between a team of Kim and
Vivien Charvatova against Giorgia Pigato and Zofia Podbiol. Initially down by two, the Mocs battled back to keep the match close, but the Fighting Knights held on for the 6-4 doubles point win.
Bolivar won her singles match in a close 7-5 first set and a 6-3 second set. Kim traded set wins with Barbora Cibakova as the match-deciding third set went to Kim.
Mathilda Vidgren had a slight edge over Pigato, ranked 23
rd in the nation, for most of the first set, but Pigato rallied for a 7-5 first set win. A tie-breaking second set went to Pigato to win the match.

The Mocs will travel to face No. 1 Barry University in Miami Shores on Sunday, set for an 11 a.m. start.
