A Close Battle But Women's Tennis Lose on the Road to Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's tennis team lost a close 4-3 match against Sunshine State Conference opponent Rollins College Wednesday afternoon at Copeland Stadium.
 
The Mocs (1-2, 1-2 SSC) won the doubles competition, but were unable to tally enough singles points. The Tars (2-4, 1-1) won the game-deciding singles match in a third set to seal the win.
 
A team of Maxima Ellenberg and Isabella Bolivar won their doubles match 6-2, before the Tars took the next doubles match for a 1-1 tie. After a tiebreaker set in doubles, Mathilda Vidgren and Laura Vetter won 7-6 (7-3) for the guaranteed one-point lead to start singles competition.
 
Florida Southern lost three of the singles matches in two sets but fought for the other three to go into a tie-breaking third set. Ellenberg won her second collegiate singles match after a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) battle against Natalia Collado Cord. The third point in the match for the Mocs came after Olivia Bryant lost her first set but rallied to win the next two sets and even the match 3-3. The game-deciding singles match was with Boliva and Polina Vlasova which went to another three-set thriller. After a first set loss, Bolivar won the next set to send it to a tiebreaker. Bolivar lost the last set, as the Tars hold on to win 4-3.

The Mocs return home to host Bates College this Saturday, set for a 12 p.m. start at Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
