MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Another Sunshine State Conference win as the Florida Southern College baseball team wins 5-1 over Barry University Friday night at the Feinbloom Field.
The Mocs (6-5, 3-1) tallied an early 2-0 lead in the second and never relinquished the lead throughout the game. The Buccaneers (3-9, 0-4) had five errors in the game on their way to a game one loss.
Despite a scoreless first inning,
Ryan Jenkins sent the first pitch of the second inning over the fence in a solo home run and 1-0 lead.
Ahmad Fitts reached on a fielding error in next at-bat to eventually make his way around the bases and a 2-0 Moccasin lead in the second.
Nathan Madej controlled the mound for the Mocs to allow only one hit in his five innings, as the Bucs remained scoreless through five.
In the top of the sixth inning Fitts singled through the right side before
Jeff Liquori tallied an RBI single as the Mocs continued a 3-0 show. Barry responded in the bottom of the sixth with a single by Casteneda who eventually scored on a throwing error. Florida Southern expanded their lead with two runs in the seventh inning, despite leaving two on base.
The Mocs continued their string of great pitching as
Logan Verrino, Dawson Lane, and
Ryan Langford entered to keep the Bucs at bay. Florida Southern outhit the Buccaneers nine-to-seven. Liquori extends his hit streak to eight games with his RBI single in the sixth.
Duncan Hunter now has a team-high nine games with at least one hit. Madej gets his third win of the season with six strikeouts in five innings with only one hit and no runs.
