Tennis Loses to Rollins on the Road

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Florida Southern College loses a tough 5-2 match against Sunshine State Conference opponent Rollins College Friday afternoon at Copeland Stadium.

The Mocs (1-3, 1-2) were unable to get the doubles point and won two of the singles matches. The Tars (2-2, 1-1) get their first conference win of the spring 2022 season after a sweep of the doubles competition and successful singles bout.

Unable to win the doubles point, Florida Southern had two of the three matches go to a tiebreaker. A pairing of Elliott Altman and Matteo Feggi sent the doubles match to a close 7-6 (7-4) decision but lost to Putrino and Stenzer of Rollins. Oscar Sohl and Erik Nordblom had similar results as they fought for a tiebreaker, but ultimately lost 7-6 (7-3).

Valentin Hertweck put the Mocs on the board with their first point of the match, after he handled Andrea Brignacca in a 6-0, 6-2 win. Sohl lost his first set to Efe Comu but was able to tally a set win to send the match to a third set tiebreaker. In a lengthy battle, Sohl outlasted Comu to win the third set in a 11-to-9 decision.

Altman took his singles match to a third set but was unable to tally the win in a 3-6, 7-5, 3-10 loss. Chris Fok Kow, Nordblom, and Feggi were the other Florida Southern competitors in the 5-2 loss to the Tars.
