LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's tennis team tallies another big win at home with a SCORE win over visiting Bates College Saturday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
In doubles competition, the Mocs won two of the three flights for an early 1-0 doubles point win. Pairing of
Valentin Hertweck and
Chris Fok Kow was down 3-4 halfway through the match but rallied for three straight wins for a 6-4 flight victory.
Oscar Sohl and
Erik Nordblom handled their Bates opponent in a 6-2 win as
Brian Pham and
Hikaru Nagoshi fought in a close match but lost 7-5.
During the singles competition, Florida Southern won all six of their flights for sweep of the Bobcats. Hertweck and
Matteo Feggi won their singles flights with two-set victories. After a close set one for Sohl, he sealed a commanding set two to win his flight 7-5, 6-1.
Nicholas Mora won his first singles match of the 2022 season after a 6-4, 6-1 win over his Bates College opponent. Another two-set win for
Elliott Altman as he handled the Bobcats 6-4, 6-2. A quick set one win for Fok Kow led to a lengthy set two battle against Nick Forester. Trading points through the whole set, Fok Kow held on for a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreak.
The Mocs improve to 2-4 overall and stay 1-2 in the SSC. Bates falls to 0-2 to start their spring 2022 season and ends their Florida opponent tour. Florida Southern remains undefeated when at home.
