LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College won their third consecutive home match with a SCORE win over visiting University of Findlay at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mocs (3-3, 1-2) won the doubles point and continued their great performance into singles competition with a sweeping win in all six flights. The Oilers (4-8, 0-0 G-MAC) won a flight in doubles, but unable to find a win in singles competition.
Despite a loss in doubles competition to start the match, the Mocs won the next flight with a great run by
Valentin Hertweck and
Chris Fok Kow. Down to the last flight for the doubles point, it was a neck-and-neck competition between Findlay and pairing of
Oscar Sohl and
Erik Nordblom. The Mocs held a slight advantage and finished strong to win the set 6-4 and Florida Southern 1-0 lead for doubles.
The strong showing continued into singles as Hertweck, Fok Kow, and Sohl each won their flights in two sets.
Matteo Feggi, built off his string of flight victories this season, won his match in a 6-4, 6-2 decision.
Elliott Altman won his first set in a 7-5 score, and went to a lengthy set two, which went to Findlay. A tiebreaker third set went to Altman in a 10-4 score. After a win in the first set, Norblom rallied late but unable to catch his Findlay opponent in the second set for another tiebreaker flight. A battle in the tiebreaker went to Norblom as he fought for a 10-6 third set and match win.
