MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference has named Florida Southern College baseball pitcher
Nathan Madej as the SSC Pitcher of the Week. This is Madej's second POW selection this year.
The Lemont, Ill. native led the Mocs to a 5-1 win over Barry University Friday night on the road to a conference series win in Miami Shores. Madej pitched five innings for his third win of the season, allowing only one hit. He gave up no runs in his 21 batters faced and had seven force outs in his 104 total pitches.
Madej leads the Mocs with a team-high 22 strikeouts in his four game appearances. He has a 3.32 ERA in his 21.2 innings pitched. With only eight hits against him this season, opposing batters have a .116 batting average when Madej is on the mound.
The Mocs had a successful weekend against Barry including a game two thriller which Florida Southern scored four runs in the top of the ninth to retake the lead and hold off a walk off win by the Bucs. Despite a game three loss, the Mocs won the series 2-1.
Florida Southern has a busy week as they host Kentucky Wesleyan tonight at 6 p.m. and tomorrow at the same time at Henley Field. The Mocs then face Winona State on Friday before a weekend series against No. 21 Augustana University Saturday and Sunday.
