LAKELAND, Fla. – Another day with three home runs for the Florida Southern College baseball on their way to an 8-2 win and 2-0 series win over visiting Kentucky Wesleyan Tuesday night at Historic Henley Field.
The Mocs (9-6, 4-2) had back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning as Florida Southern held the lead the whole game. The Panthers (0-8, 0-0 G-MAC) scored two in the fifth inning in a bases load situation, but the Mocs kept Kentucky Wesleyan from any additional scores for an 8-2 win.
Florida Southern was first on the board after a deep triple by
Jeff Liquori to set up an RBI sacrifice fly by
Duncan Hunter for the 1-0 lead in the first inning. Keeping the Panthers scoreless, the Mocs had four hits in the second inning that led to three more runs.
Joe Raffaele had an RBI single to start the scoring as
Nathan Chevalier notched a two-RBI single and 4-0 lead to start the third.
Starting pitcher
Brennan LaBarbera continued a great run into the fifth inning as the Panthers tallied three hits in bases loaded situation. Kentucky Wesleyan cut into the Moccasin lead on two runs, before
Christian Suarez came in to relieve and keep the Panthers on base. Florida Southern responded with two-run homer by
Ahmad Fitts and keep the Mocs in a comfortable lead.
For the first time since April 2, 2021, the Mocs hit back-to-back home runs with Liquori and Chevalier going deep. With the two runs, the Mocs extended their lead to six. Florida Southern continued great pitching and fielding with
Dawson Lane, Reed Burke, and
Justin Wit entering the game on the mound and keep the Panthers scoreless for the rest of the game and 8-2 Moccasin win.
