Close Match But Mocs Fall to DI Opponent UCONN

LAKELAND, Fla. – A strong effort by the Florida Southern College women's tennis team as they nearly take down visiting Division I opponent University of Connecticut in a 4-3 loss Tuesday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.

The Mocs (7-3, 1-2 SSC) was just short in earning the doubles point but tallied three flight wins to narrow the deficit. The Huskies (6-4, 1-0 Big East) took the doubles point and won half of the singles flight to seal their win over the Mocs.

Despite a close doubles battle, the Mocs earned a flight win by a pairing of Minnie Kim and Vivien Charvatova in a 6-4 decision, but the Huskies took the first and third flight over Laura Vetter/Mathilda Vidgren and Maxima Ellenberg/Flor Salerno.

Florida Southern's first point came by Olivia Bryant in a 6-0, 6-1 win over her DI opponent and big Moccasin win. Vetter fought hard in her flight, but lost 6-2, 6-4 along with Kim who dropped her flight despite a close 5-7 set two battle. Isabella Bolivar outlasted her opponent in set one with 7-5 win and carried the momentum for a set two win and second point for the Mocs. The match deciding flight for the Huskies went in flight two as Vidgren tied the score with a set two win but fell in the third set in a 6-1 loss. Salerno won her flight in three sets with another big DI opponent win for the Mocs.
