MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's tennis team rallies in the singles competition and win a big 4-3 match over Indiana University of Pennsylvania in a neutral site matchup in Melbourne Friday afternoon.
The Mocs (8-3) lost the doubles point but had a great showing in singles competition for the win. The Crimson Hawks (5-6) won two of the three doubles flights, but unable to tally enough points in singles as they fall.
In doubles,
Laura Vetter and
Mathilda Vidgren won their flight in a touch 7-5 score. However, it was the No. 11 doubles pair in the nation for IUP that had the advantage over the Mocs on the #2 court. The Crimson Hawks sealed their win with a win in the #3 court with a score of 6-4.
A great job by Florida Southern as they started with wins by
Olivia Bryant and
Isabella Bolivar, each in two sets. The third point for the Mocs came from another clutch flight win by
Flor Salerno, setting up a big #1 court match. Vetter carried the momentum from the doubles match win into singles as she outlasted her opponent in set one, winning 7-6. Another great job in set two as she won 6-3 and seals the Moccasin win. No. 18 Karolin Kirchtag for IUP won the #2 flight, as the Crimson Hawks also take #3 for the third and final point.
