MELBOURNE, Fla – The Florida Southern College women's tennis team just short as they lose 5-2 against St. Mary's University in a neutral site matchup Saturday afternoon in Melbourne, Fla.
The Mocs (8-4), ranked 45
th in the nation according to the latest ITA Division II rankings, lost the doubles point but won two flights to narrow the deficit. The Rattlers (8-2) won the doubles point and had a successful singles competition and win the match.
In doubles competition, the Mocs had tough matchups as they earned one flight one from a clutch win by
Vivien Charvatova and
Minnie Kim. On court #1,
Laura Vetter and
Mathilda Vidgren (ranked 39
th in doubles ITA standings) fought hard but fall to their St. Mary's pairing as the Rattlers take flight three and the doubles point.
Olivia Bryant put the Mocs on the board first with a flight win in two sets and even the score 1-1 and start of the singles competition. A tough battle on the #1 court for Vetter as she drops her flight 6-4, 6-1 against No. 12 Ashley Penshorn. A great job by
Isabella Bolivar who won her flight 6-2, 6-2 as the back-and-forth battle against St. Mary's continued. The with three remaining flights determined by three sets, as
Flor Salerno and Vidgren were just edged out by their opponents. A hard fight for Kim but she loses in three sets as the Rattlers hold on.
