LAKELAND, Fla. - The No. 45 Florida Southern College women's tennis team defeated the No. 32 West Virginia State Yellow Jackets by a team score of 6-1 on Monday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
Florida Southern started off the day with a big doubles point win, sweeping all three matches. The 39th ranked doubles pairing of
Laura Vetter and
Mathilda Vidgren, according to the latest ITA rankings, took down the Yellow Jackets top pair of Chante Malo and Gaya Solomon by a score of 6-2.
Flor Salerno and
Kelly Klaren secured the doubles point by defeating Tuva Wallin and Lea Rolland by a score 6-4. The sweep was finished by
Vivien Charvatova and
Minnie Kim taking down Emily Moore and Maya Haidari by a score of 6-4.
Olivia Bryant was the first singles match to finish, only taking two sets to best Lea Rolland.
Maxima Ellenberg competed in her first singles match since early March with a two-set sweep over Julieta Beltramino, with scores 6-2 and 6-1. Vidgren clinched the victory for the Mocs, shutting out Wallin in the first set 6-0 followed by a quick second set of 6-2.
Isabella Bolivar and Vetter each won their matches in a third set tie-break, both 10-8. Salerno rounded out the Moccasins lineup, dropping her match in a third set tie-break by a close 8-10 deficit.
Following the 6-1 victory, the Mocs improved to 9-4 on the season and 4-2 at home.
