LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's tennis team remains undefeated at home as they get a big win over No. 23 Auburn University at Montgomery Saturday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
The Mocs (4-3, 1-2) won the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead and handled AU-M for another four singles wins. The Warhawks (5-3, 1-0 GSC) won two of the singles flights on their way to a 5-2 loss.
Florida Southern won their first flight with a team of
Valentin Hertweck and
Chris Fok Kow in a 6-2 decision over No. 7 doubles pairing of Bedwan and Rieme but the Mocs lost their second flight to the Warhawks. A point-deciding third flight went to the Mocs as
Brandon Pham and
Brian Pham won their match in an exciting 6-2 match for the doubles point to the Mocs.
Oscar Sohl won his singles flight in a 6-1, 6-1 score, as
Elliott Altman won his in a 6-4, 6-4 decision.
Matteo Feggi continued great work with a 6-3, 6-2 win with the last Moccasin built in a lengthy battle for Hertweck. After splitting the first two sets, Hertweck took down his AUM opponent in a win by retirement in the tiebreaker third set and point for the Mocs. A close tiebreaker for
Erik Nordblom went to the Warhawks with only two flights won for AU-M.
