LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern College women's tennis hosted another conference opponent Monday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center after a long non-conference competition stretch and ultimately fell to the No. 1 nationally ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks by a score of 6-1.
The Mocs had a hard-fought start to the day as
Minnie Kim and
Vivien Charvatova defeated the Sharks second pairing of Julie Razafindranaly and Nika Kozar by a score of 6-3, bringing the doubles series score to 1-1.
Flor Salerno and
Maxima Ellenberg fought to win the doubles point for the Mocs, rallying back from an 0-5 deficit to tie the match up at 6 forcing a tie break set. They dropped the tie break set by a score of 7-5 for the Sharks to win the doubles point.
The Sharks clinched the victory with No. 5 nationally ranked opponent Natalie Espinal taking down Mocs
Mathilda Vidgren in two sets by scores 3-4 and 4-6.
Salerno fell in her first set to Chantal Nosievici 4-6 but came out strong in the second set with a 2-0 start. After being tied up at 2, Salerno and Nosievici would continue to trade games until the set was tied at 5. Nosievici took the second set 5-7 to give Nova Southeastern their fifth point of the day.
Olivia Bryant had the lone win for the Mocs as she defeated No. 28 Nika Kozar in two sets by scores of 7-6 and 7-5.
Following the 6-1 loss, the Mocs fell to 9-5 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.

The Mocs will continue their conference play later this week, as they travel to seventh ranked Saint Leo on Thursday, March 31st with a 3:00 PM start.
