Women's Tennis Upset No. 28 Embry-Riddle on Senior Day

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's tennis team finished Senior Day on a high note as they upset No. 28 Embry-Riddle 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. A ceremony celebrating seniors Minnie Kim, Flor Salerno, Mathilda Vidgren, and Mallory Kelly took place before the match.

The Mocs (11-7, 3-5 SSC), ranked #39 in the latest ITA poll, rallied for the doubles point and had a great battle on court five to seal the match point and win. The Eagles (11-6, 2-4 SSC) tied the match 3-3 with just one flight left, but Mocs come out on top for the win.

After a great doubles win by Vivien Charvatova and Maxima Ellenberg, the Eagles responded with a flight win of their own and 1-1 tie in doubles. Vidgren, teamed with Laura Vetter, were down in the flight, but rallied for a huge 7-5 win and doubles point to the Moccasins.

Singles competition was just as nail biting as both teams fought hard for each point. Vidgren started the Mocs with a big win on court two, as Vetter lost to No. 11 Itxaso Blanco. The Eagles had a win on court three, before Salerno again took the lead for the Mocs 3-2 with just two flights left. After a win in the first set, Isabella Bolivar lost a close one in three sets, leaving the match up to court five. Olivia Bryant, riding a great record the last ten matches, took the first set 6-0, but found herself down in set two. A remarkable comeback by Bryant took the game to a tiebreaker point, with Bryant outlasting the Eagles 7-6 (7-4) for their best win over a ranked opponent this season.
