LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern College softball team earned a 4-2 win on Friday night when Palm Beach Atlantic came to town for a Sunshine State Conference series. The Mocs sealed the fate of the Sailfish in the bottom of the sixth scoring two runs to take back their lead and start the series 1-0.
Southern improves to 15-18 overall and 4-12 in the SSC, while PBA falls to 12-20 on the year and 11-11 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mocs attacked early to open up the series against the Sailfish, as Myah Moy hit an RBI double to deep center field, scoring Kelsey Peck taking a 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
Peck scored again for FSC from an RBI double that freshman Destiny Colgate hit down the left-field line.
Florida Southern was up 2-0 after five innings of play with five different pitchers putting in work not allowing a hit until the top of the fifth. In the top of the sixth, the Sailfish scored to tie the game and make it 2-2 from a Mocs error and double play that resulted in a scored run for PBA.
Colgate opened the bottom of the sixth with a single to right-center field that put her on first base. Moy singled through the left side to continue the hot hitting for FSC. Pinch runners Delaney Asbury and Jessica Bryson each scored when Mariah Rodriguez cleared the bases with a deep single to left field that resulted in a 4-2 win for the Mocs.
Colgate, Moy, and M. Rodriguez all went 2-for-3 on the night while Rodriguez brought in two runners, followed by Colgate and Moy with one apiece.
In the circle, Kayla Hickey earns the win with one inning pitched to move to 5-3 on the season. Mel Rogers will collect her third save by closing the game.
