Mocs Drop First SSC Game at Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -  Florida Southern College's Henri Tophoven knocked in his sixth goal of the season, as the Mocs fell 2-1 to the Nova Southeastern Sharks on the road at NSU Soccer Complex.

After the loss to the Sharks, the Mocs now stand at 2-1-1 with a .625 record and stand at 0-1 in the Sunshine State Conference. The Sharks move to 1-1-2 on the season and 1-0 in the SSC.

The first half of the game was defined by a strong defensive effort, as neither team scored in the first 45 minutes of the game.

Finally, in the 68th minute of the game, Nova Southeastern's Alberto Rentero ripped a shot into the goal to take a 1-0 lead over the Mocs.

The Sharks struck again in the 81st minute from Milos Christoforou with an assist from Giovanni Ciocca Vasino.

The Mocs struck back in the 85th minute as United Soccer Coaches national player of the week Tophoven scored his sixth goal of the season in only five games to make the score 2-1. He was assisted by sophomore Sam Michaels.

Unfortunately, the late effort was not enough as the Mocs fell short to the Sharks 2-1. The Sharks ended the game with 11 shots on goal, while the Mocs took four shots on goal.

AJ Pearce saved five shots, his second-highest number of saves this season.
