Mocs Minutes: Basketballs Host Saint Leo in Midweek Showdown

  • Florida Southern returns home after back-to-back games on the road, but this time with a little more fire as interim head coach Megan Dzikas '12 was just promoted to head coach on Monday morning. Dzikas has been leading the Moccasins all season and currently are sitting in the middle of the conference at fifth as the Mocs are hoping to build on their latest win on the road at Embry-Riddle last weekend. Senior Domenica Zamora led the team going on a 9-0 run hitting three shots beyond the arc to give FSC a late lead that pushed them to the finish against the Eagles to get the Mocs back to their winning ways.
  • As a team, FSC is averaging 72.7 points per game, while their opponents average 67.3. Now with seven conference matchups and 14 games total the Mocs remain the top team in the free throw percentage hitting 201 of 248 shots for a .810 average. On the defensive side, as a team the Mocs are second in the conference with 171 offensive boards for an average of 12.2 rebounds per game and second with steals coming in with 151 averaging 10.79 steals per game.
  • Ashley Shell continues to lead FSC in the conference sitting eight in scoring with 198 points averaging 14.1 points per game. Zamora is 11th with 164 points for an average of 13.7 points per game. Zamora sits second in the SSC with 3-point field goals per game with averaging 2.8 shots beyond the arc and a .458 percentage overall sinking 33 of 72 shots. Along with Zamora's top performances from the field she is in the top five with free throw percentage shooting .920, assists (4.7 apg) and steals (2.4 spg). On the defensive side, Shell continues to be the leading force sitting seventh in the conference with 100 total boards. Sophomore Anna Denes is just outside the top 10 in the conference at 13th with 75 rebounds.
  • Saint Leo kept up with the visiting Lynn Fighting Knights throughout the whole course of the game Saturday evening. The weekend conference showdown featured a tight matchup with both teams exchanging the lead seven times with nine ties throughout the course of the evening. The Fighting Knights were able to pull away late, defeating Saint Leo, 78-71. Amanda Ulrich led the charge with her 22 points. The senior from Secaucus, New Jersey shot 7-of-15 from the field and 2-of-6 from downtown. Kiki McIntyre finished second on the team in points with 16.
  • Ulrich heads into the midweek showdown currently leads the Sunshine State conference in scoring with 287 points on the year. The senior is averaging a team-high 19.1 points per game. She currently sits in 12th in the conference for field goal percentage at .495, eighth in free throw percentage at .845, and fourth in three pointers made at 34.
  • Alex Button currently sits ninth place in the Sunshine State Conference with her .503 field goal percentage. Button sits in ninth in three point percentage at .412, eighth in three pointers made with 28, seventh in blocks with 10, and 12th in free throw percentage at .825. McIntyre heads into the midweek battle currently leading the Sunshine State conference as well as the Lions defense with 47 steals. Jumoke Adaramoye sits in tenth in the conference for steals with 26. Tamara Shash sits tenth in blocks with seven.
  • HISTORY: The Mocs hold a 84-11 record against the Lions including a 27-game win streak from 1978-1990. Florida Southern is 42-5 all-time against Saint Leo at Home in Jenkins Field House. And is 37-6 on the road. Florida Southern is 9-1 in the last 10 meetings against the Lions as the Mocs defeated Saint Leo at home in the final meeting between the two teams that ended in OT with the Mocs on top 78-76.

  • Florida Southern returns home after dropping its second straight game to a ranked opponent, 106-95 at No. 20 Embry-Riddle. The Mocs saw redshirt sophomore Jadin Booth score a career-high 28 points in the road game. Redshirt sophomore Luke Anderson added 19 points while junior Connor Raines came off the bench and tallied 17 points. Redshirt senior E.J. Dambreville added 11 points while fifth year player, Noah Louis had eight points in his 20 minutes of action, both tallying a season-high for the Miami, Fla. native.
  • Four players average double-figures for the Moccasins led by Jadin Booth at 18.5 points per game (ppg). E.J. Dambreville is second on the team at 18.0 with Luke Anderson at 13.3 and redshirt sophomore Wes Bongiorni at 10.1. Dambreville continues to pace the team in rebounding with 118 total boards through 14 games, standing at 8.4 per game. Redshirt sophomore Tray Alexander is the team leader and tops in the league in assists on the season with 60 total, for an average of 4.3 per game.
  • As a squad, the Mocs rank second in scoring offense and 10th in scoring defense, allowing 82.6 ppg while scoring 89.8 themselves. Booth is fifth in the league in scoring (18.5 ppg) with Dambreville close behind in seventh (18.0). Dambreville sits fourth amongst rebounders with an average of 8.4.
  • Saint Leo has won back-to-back games over conference foes Tampa (77-71) and Lynn (100-89). The Lions are just 4-3 in away games and will put their win streak on the line. In the last matchup against Lynn, Saint Leo saw Kanon Koster go for 25 while Grant Disken was close behind with 24, each making four three-pointers on the day. Marty Jackson, the team leader in scoring for the season, added 19 points with Owen Pawlikowski totaling 10 points.

  • As a team, the Lions are fifth in scoring offense and third in scoring defense holding opponents to 72.8 points per game while scoring 82.8. Marty Jackson is the top for the Green and Gold in conference standings for points per game at 16.6 for 14th place. Kanon Koster is right behind in 15th place at 15.4. Jackson is in the top-10 for rebounds per game averaging 6.6 a game.
  • HISTORY: The two teams are tied for fourth at 4-3 in league play. Heading into the 121st meeting all-time, Florida Southern is 95-25 against Saint Leo including a 6-4 record in the last 10 meetings. After a 99-90 overtime loss at home last year, Florida Southern evened the 2021-22 season series with a 91-84 road win in February 2022. In conference play between the two institutions, FSC is 70-19 and is 51-8 all-time inside the George W. Jenkins Field House.
