The Sharks won the 400 freestyle for the three-point meet win, despite a great job by several Mocs. Florida Southern event winners included Keith Peristeridis (1000 free B standard time), Brandon Wilson, Matteo Zampese, and Kyle Micallef. The next day, the Mocs won their last home meet of the season in a commanding SSC win over Saint Leo on Senior Day. Moccasins had 12 first-place finishes among the 14 events. Zampese added another two event wins on Friday, along with K. Peristeridis, Micallef, Theo Peristeridis, Ludwig Mueller, Wilson, and Thomas Wooldridge. K. Peristeridis had four individual event wins last week, to earn his second SSC Male Swimmer of the Week award, joining only three other swimmers in program history with multiple POTW awards in a single season.
  • No. 23 Florida Southern women also split the two meets last week, with a tough loss against No. 3 Nova Southeastern on Thursday and a rebound win against Saint Leo the following day. Despite the loss to the Sharks, Florida Southern had great podium finishes by Teagan Michalek, Erin McCann, Maja Eriksson, and Emily Peck. Other podium winners included McCann, Olivia Miles, Elizabeth Sikes, and Phoebe Reid.
  • Indian River State College men host the Mocs in a battle of NJCAA and NCAA Division II competition. IRSC has a legendary record in the pool, having defended the national championship an astonishing 48 times in a row, beginning in 1975. In the 2022 championship, IRSC swimmers won 18 of the 25 events, breaking three national records. William Beckstead-Homan won the FCSAA Male Athlete of the Year for his record performance. This year, IRSC has beaten Division I opponent FAU and finished second against top-ranked Tampa last month. Last week, IRSC placed second in a quad meet at Nova Southeastern, West Chester, and Lynn.
  • Indian River State College women are equally formidable opponents with 44 straight national championships at the NJCAA level. In last year's championship, IRSC women won 24 of the 25 events contested and two national records by Gina Miller. During this season, IRSC nearly upset Division I opponent FAU, and has competed against top opponents. IRSC has beaten St. Thomas University and placed third at the Spartan Invitational last month out of six teams: Tampa, West Florida, Saint Leo, Lenoir Rhyne, and Emory & Henry. Last week, IRSC women placed third among Nova Southeastern, West Chester, and Lynn.
  • HISTORY: The Mocs have faced IRSC nine times in its history, with the women leading five wins to four losses. Florida Southern women have yet to win in Fort Pierce and lost a close battle in last year's meet at home 116-89. On the men's side, Florida Southern has met with IRSC seven times, including three wins. The men lost their last two meets against IRSC in tough competition, and hope to win on the road as the season is nearly the end of the regular season competition.
