LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern College Department of Athletics has announced promotions and additions to the staff, shared by Director of Athletics and Dean of Wellness Drew Howard.
 
Kensie Matthews '21 has been elevated to the role of Director of Compliance after spending the last year at FSC's compliance office. Clay Roe, in his fifth year at Florida Southern, has been named the Director of Athletic Communications 
 
"We are excited to reward the hard work from both Kensie and Clay in our athletic department," stated Howard on the promotions. "Kensie has risen to the challenge of an evolving NCAA compliance world, and I look forward to her role in FSC athletics.
 
Matthews returned to her alma mater in the Summer of 2025 as the Compliance Coordinator, after previously spending time as the Athletic Director at Bartow High School. A four-year member of the FSC softball team, Matthews graduated from FSC in 2021 with a degree in business administration, later earning a Master's Degree in Sport Management from the University of Florida in 2025. 
 
Clay Roe has been elevated to the role of Director of Athletic Communications after spending five years in the Florida Southern Athletics Communications office as an Assistant Director. 
 
"Clay has developed into an exceptional leader over the past few years in his role," said Howard, "and I am looking forward to the future of athletic communications under his leadership."
 
Roe joined Florida Southern in October of 2021, and has assisted in the coverage of multiple Sunshine State Conference Championships, and NCAA Regional tournaments. He oversees the entire athletics student staff and coordinates all game day roles for Florida Southern home events. Roe plays a large role in FSC's continued partnership hosting the annual Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic as well as several other major tournaments hosted by Florida Southern. 
 
In addition to the staff department promotions, FSC athletics announced the hiring of Jace Aymond and Abbey Curtis as Assistant Directors of Athletic Communications. "The communications office in our department plays a crucial role in our athletic operations, promoting our institution's 32 team national championships," said Howard. "I'm excited for Jace and Abbey to join Florida Southern and continue that level of tradition and excellence." 
 
Aymond comes to Florida Southern after spending two years at Georgia Southern, where he earned a Master of Science in Sport Management while serving as the media relations contact for baseball, men's soccer, and swimming and diving. Prior to Georgia Southern, Aymond spent two years in the sports information department at Mississippi College (now Mississippi Christian University), serving as the primary contact for the men's soccer program while handling statistical responsibilities for men's basketball, men's and women's soccer, and softball. During his undergraduate studies, he also worked as the managing editor, producer, and anchor for MCTV, the university's weekly newscast, and gained broadcast experience as the play-by-play voice of the Choctaws' women's basketball team, along with local high school and junior college athletics. He graduated from Mississippi College with a bachelor's degree in Sports Media and a minor in Psychology. 
 
Curtis makes the move to Lakeland after serving as a graduate assistant in athletic communications at Xavier University, where she was the primary communications contact for the volleyball and lacrosse programs while assisting with a variety of departmental responsibilities. Prior to Xavier, she spent three years as a communications and creative content intern in the athletic department at the College of Charleston, where she developed the women's basketball brand design toolkit for the 2023-24 season, designed graphics for five additional Olympic sports, managed the social media accounts for softball, men's soccer, and women's soccer, and created content for CofCSports.com. She also gained professional game-day experience as a member of the press box staff for the Charleston RiverDogs from 2022-24. 
 
In a commitment to enhance the athletic facilities on the campus of Florida Southern, Howard also announced the hiring of Kevin Wonders as an Athletic Facilities Assistant. Wonders brings a strong background in maintaining facilities and will play a big role in the Barnett Athletic Complex, Jenkins Field House, and other playing sites for the Moccasins. Will Poole, who was recently promoted to Athletic Facilities Manager, leads a group of Kevin Perez, Philip Patrinostro, and Wonders as the department continues to provide the best possible space for student-athletes and the entire Florida Southern campus.
