LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College volleyball team dropped a Sunshine State Conference contest at home to Lynn Saturday afternoon, 3-0. Senior
Mackenzie Petermann reached 1,000 career kills midway through the opening set becoming just the 24
th Moccasin in program history to achieve the feat.

The loss dropped FSC's record to 14-8 on the year while the Mocs moved to 7-6 in SSC play. The Fighting Knights improved to 17-7 overall and 8-5 in league action.

Petermann added 10 more kills to her total on the night to finish with 12 for the match and she now has 1,010 for her career. The senior led the Moccasins as she was the lone member of the squad to reach double-digit kills in the match while adding two blocks and five digs. Graduate student

Kiersten Kraus each added six kills to finish tied for second on the squad. Djokovic added eight digs and a solo block to her total while Kraus finished with eight assists, nine digs and a pair of block assists.

Madison Fowler had another strong blocking performance as she finished with five blocks over the three sets. She also added five kills and a dig. Senior libero
Caroline Chambers posted her second-highest career dig number with 22 from the back row while earning one service ace as well. Freshman setter
Mary Kate Mulvaney dished out a team-high 19 assists while digging up 10 balls for her seventh double-double of the season.

Lynn posted a .222 hitting percentage in the match while holding the Mocs to .110. FSC edged the Fighting Knights in blocks 7-5 while Lynn held the lead in digs 66-60.

FSC opened the match with four-straight points and held the lead until midway through the opening set. Lynn, trailing 14-11, went on an 8-0 run to flip the script and give the Fighting Knights a 19-14 advantage. The Mocs immediately responded with an 8-2 run of their own to retake a 22-21 lead late in the period. After trading the next four points, the Mocs had their first set point of the night at 24-23. The Fighting Knights used a kill and a block to once again flip the advantage giving themselves their first set point of the night at 25-24. An attack error gave the Moccasins new life at 25-25 but a Lynn kill followed by a Moccasin attack error gave Lynn the set 27-25.

FSC opened the second set much like the first as the Mocs scored the first three points of the period. Lynn immediately responded with a 4-0 run of its own to give the Fighting Knights their first lead of the second set. The set would remain close until an 11-1 run by Lynn gave the visitors a 23-14 lead late. The two teams traded the next four points giving Lynn a 25-16 victory in the second set.

The third set once again saw the Mocs take an early lead at 3-1 but another large run by the Fighting Knights changed the advantage. Trailing 3-1, the Fighting Knights scored seven unanswered to give themselves an 8-3 lead. The Mocs then scored six of the next seven points to tie the set at 9-9 but the match of runs continued as the Fighting Knights answered with a 9-0 run of their own. The Mocs got within five points five times down the stretch but Lynn held on for a 25-17 victory.

The Mocs will now have much time to reflect on the loss as Eckerd College awaits on Halloween night. FSC will travel to St. Petersburg Tuesday, Oct. 31 for a 7 p.m. match against the Tritons who currently rank second in the SSC.
