LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's tennis team won its second game in a row with a 6-1 victory over Bates College Tuesday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
The Mocs (3-2, 1-2 SSC) lost the doubles point but quickly rebounded to sweep each of the singles courts for a 6-1 home win. Bates (0-1, 0-0 NESCAC) lost its season opener to the Mocs and was unable to keep the momentum after winning doubles.
Florida Southern was unable to find a groove in doubles as they lost each of the three courts.
Matteo Feggi and
Chris Fok Kow were unable to recover from an early deficit in a 6-4 loss, as did
Mario Garoz /
Ryan Rajakar in their 6-2 loss. On court #3,
Inaki Braun Simo and
Danny Thomas lost 6-4.
FSC recovered at the start of singles, with each of the courts winning their first set. Fok Kow had a battle at #1 court with a second set loss but outlasted his Bobcats opponent with a 10-6 tiebreaker set. Braun Simo won 6-0, 6-3 with Garoz a 6-4, 6-4 winner on #3.
Alex Fascio and Feggi handled their opponents in two sets as well.
Elliott Altman won by retirement, ahead 5-2 in the first set.
Mocs will stay at home as they face RV Rollins College in a massive SSC match Thursday, Feb. 23, set for a 3 p.m. start at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
