LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 19 Florida Southern College women's tennis team won a 4-3 thriller against Indiana University of Pennsylvania Tuesday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
The Mocs (9-2) extended their win streak to nine games, matching the most wins in a row since the 2019 season. The Crimson Hawks (1-6) won the doubles point but were unable to tally enough wins in singles as the Mocs won 4-3.
Florida Southern began with a tough doubles competition, with IUP taking two of the courts and the first point of match. At the #1 court,
Maxima Ellenberg and
Laura Vetter, ranked 39
th in doubles, lost a tough match against Kirchtag/Grayond for a 6-0 score. A similar story with the #2 court as IUP won again over
Vivien Charvatova and
Laia Pasini with a 6-2 score.
Kennedi Brown and
Kelly Klaren had a 7-5 win at #3 court but the doubles point still went to the Crimson Hawks.
In singles, an exciting competition that began with a massive win by Pasini over No. 29 Kirchtag with a 6-3, 6-3 score, the first time a Moccasin took down a nationally ranked singles player this season. IUP had wins on the #2 court over Vetter with a 6-4, 6-3 score and on the #4 court over Charvatova with a 6-2, 6-4 IUP court win.
Isabella Bolivar had a great win at #5 with a 6-4, 6-2 win but it was Brown at #6 with the match-deciding court. After a set one loss, Brown rebounded for a massive 7-5 set two win and a 6-4 set three victory as the Mocs won 4-3.
The Mocs will look for win number 10 on the season with a home match against Bentley on Thursday, March 16, set for a 3 p.m. start at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
