LAKELAND, Fla. – The winning streak continues for the No. 29 Florida Southern College women's tennis team beat the No. 36 University of Nebraska at Kearney 4-3 Friday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
The Mocs improved to 11-2 on the season, having won the last 11 games in a row. The Lopers fall to 9-8 overall on the season.
Florida Southern had a great doubles competition, winning each of the three courts for the doubles point.
Laura Vetter paired with
Laia Pasini for a 6-4 win at the #1 position and
Vivien Charvatova and
Neli Sunjic paired for a #2 court win by a 6-1 score. Similarly,
Kennedi Brown and
Kelly Klaren a 6-1 winner at the #3 spot.
A lengthy battle for the Mocs in singles competition, with many of the courts going the distance with three sets. Pasini was a two-set winner by way of retirement after winning the first set and ahead in the second before being called. Vetter had a tough matchup at #2 spot with a set one loss and rebounded second set win, before a set three loss and point for the Lopers. UNK won in three at #3 over
Olivia Bryant, as was Charvatova at #4. Brown won in two sets over UNK opponent at #6 and it was a three set win by
Isabella Bolivar for the match win to the Mocs.
Florida Southern will hit the road in conference play as they face No. 5 Nova Southeastern, set for a 10 a.m. start on Sunday, March 19 in Fort Lauderdale.
