FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 29 Florida Southern College women's tennis was unable to beat No. 5 Nova Southeastern University with a 6-1 loss on the road Sunday morning at the NSU Tennis Center at Rolling Hills.
The Mocs (11-3, 2-3 SSC) had their 11-game win streak snapped, unable to win enough courts in the conference bout. The Sharks (11-1, 3-0 SSC) won doubles, and continued into singles, winning five of the six courts and a conference win.
For doubles,
Laia Pasini and
Laura Vetter were unable to upset the No. 1 NSU pairing for a 6-4 court #1 loss, as were
Jolie Miller and
Neli Sunjic for a 6-1 loss at #2 position. The third court of
Kennedi Brown and
Kelly Klaren went unfinished as the Sharks sealed the doubles point.
Facing four nationally ranked singles players, Mocs were unable to put together a win on five of the courts.
Olivia Bryant did, however, upset No. 33 Snita in a three-set win for the Mocs as Bryant won the first set 7-6 and the third set with a 10-4 tiebreak. Pasini lost to No. 15 Razafindranaly 4-6, 4-6, and Vetter a 2-6, 2-6 loss to No. 31 Espinal.
Isabella Bolivar, Sunjic, and Miller also lost their courts, with Miller facing No. 75 Goncharov.
The Mocs will host Palm Beach Atlantic University next Saturday, March 25, set for a 2 p.m. start at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
