LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 20 Florida Southern College men's tennis team fell to Washburn University by a score of 5-2 Monday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Courts.
The Mocs (12-4) were unable to find momentum in singles to snap their nine-match win streak heading into today's match. The Ichabods (8-4) improved and upset the Mocs at home, with a sweep of doubles and more than half of singles courts.
A tough competition in doubles as the Mocs faced nationally ranked pairing of Hammes/Rendon, No. 34 in doubles, with a 6-3 Washburn win over
Mario Garoz and
Ryan Rajakar. No. 6 pairing of
Chris Fok Kow and
Matteo Feggi had their flight cut short with Washburn ahead in the retired court.
Alex Fascio and
Danny Thomas were unable to beat their WU opponents with a 6-2 loss.
In singles, Mocs had a gritty flight win by Fok Kow over No. 58 Hammes at the #1 position as Fok Kow won the first set and rallied in the third set for a court win. The second, and last, Moccasin point came from
John Gidefjord at #5 with a three-set battle, which Gidefjord won the first and third set for the win.
Elliott Altman and Garoz had their courts go to third sets, but each unable to come out with a win.
The Mocs will host Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday, March 25, set for a 2 p.m. start at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
