WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Florida Southern College baseball outhit No. 21 Rollins College for a 9-5 FSC road victory at Alfond Stadium Tuesday night in Winter Park.
The Mocs (19-9, 5-4 SSC) tallied 18 hits and had four runs in the eighth inning to take the lead late. The Tars (20-8, 10-2 SSC) tied the game in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to rally from FSC's big eighth for a 9-5 Moccasin win.
Florida Southern was first to score in the game with a leadoff homer by
Ryan Magdic to deep right field. Mocs had five total hits in the first, one by
Connor Berry to bring home
Bryce Safferwich for a 2-0 FSC lead. Rollins answered with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 2 apiece.
FSC was quick to take the lead back with an RBI double by
Drew Cavanaugh to send
Jevin Relaford home for a 3-2 score through two innings. The next three innings were scoreless for both teams as
Lake Fisher got the start for the Mocs and went four innings.
Justin Wit relieved Fisher for a successful two innings allowing no hits and no runs while striking out three.
Rollins was unable to stop the Mocs in the sixth as FSC added another two runs from an RBI single by Magdic and RBI single by
Jeff Liquori for a 5-2 score. The Tars managed to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh while racking up three runs to reset the board.
Florida Southern had five hits in the top of the eighth leading to four runs to take the lead once again. Mocs had RBI singles by Cavanaugh and Safferwich before Berry hit a deep 2 RBI double for the 9-5 Moccasin lead.
Nathan Madej handled the mound in the bottom of the eighth allowing only one hit and no runs before
Collin Camarigg entered in the bottom of the ninth to strike out two for the 9-5 FSC win. The win went to
Kerry Wright and Liquori, Magdic, and Saffewich led the team with three hits each.
The Mocs will head home and await a three-game conference series against Palm Beach Atlantic, beginning on Friday, March 31, set for a 6 p.m. start at Henley Field.
