ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College softball team swept a midweek doubleheader against Flagler College Wednesday night at the Flagler Field. The games were previously scheduled for Tuesday but were moved due to weather.
The Mocs (21-20, 8-13 SSC) won game one of the doubleheader 6-3 with three RBI by
Taylor Thomas and won game two 9-6 with a monster third inning with seven runs scored. The Saints fell to 13-28 overall with the doubleheader loss to the Mocs. Game two set a new season-high with two home runs in a single game by Florida Southern.

An early RBI double by
Skyler Ralstin opened the scoring for the Mocs with an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Saints were quick to respond with a two-run homer in the opposing half of the inning and they extended their lead to two with an RBI single in the second.
Thomas evened the score in the top of the third with a two-run RBI single to send home
Destiny Colgate and
Maddi Conner. The rest of the game went to the Mocs as they continued to put on the runs with a solo homer by
Kiki Morris in the fourth.
Colgate smashed an RBI double in the fifth and Thomas tallied her third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh for the 6-3 lead. Meanwhile, in the circle,
Ashley Blessin dialed in the Saints to complete the seven innings with just three runs scored and striking out five for her ninth win of the season.

Another early start for the Mocs with an opening inning run courtesy of a sac fly by Ralstin to send
Jessica Bryson home. Once again, the Saints responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the first to tie the game.
Thomas solo homered in her first at-bat to retake the lead in the second and expanded up on the lead with seven runs in the third inning for a 9-2 Moccasin lead. Mocs had five hits in the inning that began with an RBI single by Ralstin with one out. Colgate reached on an error that brought two more runs in before a three-run homer by
Kelsey Peck. Morris added an RBI single for the seventh run of the inning a nine total for the Mocs.
Flagler did add a single run in the bottom of the third and an RBI single in the fifth, but the Mocs continued with a 9-3 lead while
Kaylee Cowart went five innings with two strikeouts to continue the FSC lead.
Mel Rogers relieved Cowart in the sixth inning and the Saints staged a late comeback with three runs in the bottom of the seventh off a wild pitch and 2 RBI double but it was not enough as Mocs won the doubleheader.
The Mocs will return to Lakeland for a conference series against Nova Southeastern this weekend. Games will begin on Friday, April 14 at 7 p.m. for Faculty Appreciation Night and a Saturday doubleheader beginning with a Senior Day Ceremony before the 1 p.m. game, all being played at Chris Bellotto Field.
