LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 29 Florida Southern College men's tennis team won its regular season finale 4-3 over No. 34 Queens College Thursday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The Mocs celebrated
JP Fujiwara on Senior Day with
Danny Thomas and
Nicholas Mora recognized as graduate students.
The Mocs (15-8, 2-5 SSC) rallied in the singles competition with a big win to end the season. The Knights (13-4, 4-1 ECC) won the doubles point but were unable to hold the match in their favor with the loss.
In doubles, the Mocs struggled early down on many of the courts. Florida Southern recovered on courts two and three halfway through but Thomas and
Inaki Braun Simo dropped their court 6-4. Court two, however, did scrap a 6-4 win by
Ryan Rajakar and
Mario Garoz to tie the doubles field. Court one would be the decider, but the No. 7 pairing of
Chris Fok Kow and
Matteo Feggi lost 6-3 after a brief weather delay.
In singles, the Mocs rallied for big court wins by Braun Simo with a 6-0, 6-3 score on the #2 court and the #3 court by Garoz, also in two sets.
John Gidefjord followed up with a thrilling win at #5 court with a two-set victory for a 3-1 Moccasin lead.
Alex Fascio lost at #4 court but it was
Elliott Altman at #6 with the match winner. Fok Kow lost his court in two but Mocs won 4-3.
The Mocs will turn their attention to the Sunshine State Conference Championships to begin next week, April 20 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
