  • Florida Southern will host the top ranked Tars this weekend in a conference matchup with regional implications. The Mocs had a winning series against Embry-Riddle last week and sit in third among conference rankings. FSC lost its first game against the Eagles after giving up eight runs in the second inning and was unable to recover with a 12-6 loss. FSC responded in game two with a dominating 11-3 win with Aric McAtee getting his fifth win of the season. Despite a tie game in the sixth, Mocs handled ERAU with a 6-5 win in game three to take the series.
  • The Mocs were named one of 10 teams under consideration for the NCAA South Regionals and hope to solidly that mark this weekend against the Tars. FSC is third in the conference with a .316 batting average and still leads the league with 70 home runs, 11th in the nation and sixth with a 1.71 homers per game average. Bryce Safferwich continues to shine with a .407 average and sixth in the nation for hits per game with 1.79. He leads the team with 68 hits this season and has a 15-game hit streak into this weekend.
  • On the mound, the Mocs look for key performances from Nathan Madej this weekend against a good Rollins squad. The team has a 5.05 ERA and have 10 saves this season, eight of which are from closer Collin Camarigg, who entered the top 10 in program history for saves in a single season and career saves (10). Relievers Kerry Wright and Justin Wit each have an ERA below 2.00 and combine for over 45 innings. Opposing batters have a .268 average when facing the Mocs.
  • No. 9 Rollins will travel to Lakeland after winning last week's conference series against the Sailfish. The Tars did lose the first game 5-4 in a late-scoring affair as PBA went up 5-0 in the ninth. Rollins rallied for four runs but not enough as they lost game one. RC then responded with a 5-3 game two win and dominating 10-1 performance last Saturday.
  • As a team, the Tars are batting .305 with 47 homers. Parker Smith leads the team and conference with 16 home runs, and he is second in slugging among the SSC. Jimmy Thies has been hit by pitch 15 times and while leading in homers, Smith has a league-high 52 strikeouts. A strength on the team is the 4.28 ERA, second in the conference, led by starter Nick Berger with a 2.54 ERA. Edward Berry has a 2.92 ERA and .207 opposing batting average, having only allowed 18 runs all season.
  • HISTORY: Mocs have a 155-82 overall record against the Tars and hold a season advantage over the Tars with a 9-5 win last month in a midweek nonconference matchup. A tie game into the seventh, Mocs had four runs in the eighth to pull away from the Tars for the win. Last year, the Mocs had a winning series against Rollins, ahead of the Tars' regional run. With major regional implications, this series is a must-watch for Division II fans.
