  • Florida Southern will host Barry University in the regular season finale this weekend with NCAA Regional bids on the line. Mocs are fresh off a series sweep of Florida Tech last week, with head coach Lance Niekro '10 capturing his 300th career win. FSC won the first game with a 6-3 score after four runs in the eighth to take and keep the lead. The second game had similar vibes with eight runs in the sixth for a commanding lead, despite being even in hits, for a 9-5 victory. The final game, Niekro's 300th win, was an exciting 10-3 win with homers by D'Ante Starks and Ryan Magdic.
  • Mocs moved up to sixth in the NCAA South Region Rankings on Wednesday with the top eight teams selected to regionals. Three teams have already secured a spot as West Florida, Tampa, and Spring Hill won their conference titles, with only five at-large bids remaining. Barry is eighth in the rankings as each team will fight for a postseason spot.
  • FSC has continued to improve at the plate with a .320 team batting average, second-best in the conference. Connor Berry leads the league with 52 RBI on the season and FSC holds four of the top 10 spots in home run leaders as Drew Cavanaugh leads the team with 12 on the year. Bryce Safferwich has a .405 average and all but one of the Mocs' main lineups are batting over .300. From the mound, the Mocs are a 5.51 ERA team with Aric McAtee leading the team with a 3.84 ERA among starters. The team's strongest reliever, Kerry Wright has a great 1.85 ERA in his 20 appearances and 28 strikeouts. He has one earned run in the last two months and 24.1 innings pitched. Collin Camarigg has eight saves on the year and Nathan Madej leads the team with 86 strikeouts.
  • Barry will travel to Lakeland after a winning series against Nova Southeastern last week. The Bucs lost 6-1 to the Sharks but rallied for a doubleheader win on Saturday with a 4-3 and 6-2 win. Barry held off any additional runs in the 4-3 win, only allowing one in the eighth and Jake Ogden with the save. NSU had a 2-1 lead in the first, but Barry had five runs in the third while keeping the rest of the innings scoreless for the 6-2 win and series win.
  • The Buccaneers are led by Braden Forchic with a .374 batting average with a team .317 average, just behind the Mocs. The team has 53 homers on the year, and many are batting over .300 on the season. Forchic leads the SSC in slugging (.713) and OPS (1.177) and Christian Maceda and Evan Wickeri are both top four in the league in stolen bases. The team has a 5.35 combined ERA with Mike Reagan leading starters with a 3.57. Federico Zapata has seven saves this season and both Reagan and Angel Cespedes have 64 strikeouts in their 13 appearances. Reagan has a conference-high eight wins this year.
  • HISTORY: Mocs have an 80-31 advantage in the overall record against the Bucs but are an even 5-5 in the last 10 matchups. Last season, the Mocs won the series 2-1, and nearly a sweep but a 7-6 loss in the final game with a Barry walk-off. The winning series last season was the first series win since 2018 and with regional implications, this weekend is the biggest of the year with the winner likely earning a bid to the NCAA postseason.
