The Mocs (32-16, 17-11 SSC) had a two-run homer in the seventh of the first game but not enough with an 8-2 Barry win. The Buccaneers (30-17, 14-14 SSC) opened the second doubleheader game in the top of the first with a run scored before the game was halted.
BARRY 8, FLORIDA SOUTHERN 2
The Mocs struggled early as the Buccaneers capitalized on costly errors in the first inning that led to three runs. Despite only one hit in the top of the first inning, Barry managed two runs off an errant throw to home plate and a third run from advancing runners.
Barry added another three runs in the second inning, this time off three hits. A 2 RBI single up the middle preceded an RBI double for the third run and a quick 6-0 deficit for the Mocs. FSC had a single by
Connor Berry and a double by
Mitch Donofrio, but a double play and swinging strikeout led to no runs in the second.
The next two innings were scoreless on both sides, including Barry leaving two on base in the fourth, but the Buccaneers added one run in back-to-back innings for an 8-0 lead in the sixth inning.
Florida Southern tallied its first runs of the day after a single by Berry led to a runner on for
Jeff Liquori to smash a homer to right field and an 8-2 Barry lead through seven.
After a scoreless eighth inning, the Mocs and
Jordan Fox kept Barry scoreless in the final three innings for a chance in the bottom of the ninth. Mocs had two on base to lead off the ninth, but three straight flyouts sealed the Barry 8-2 win for the game one doubleheader.
The final game of the series was halted in the top of the first inning due to prolonged weather delays and will be resumed tomorrow, May 14, at 1 p.m. at Henley Field.
