Bryant and Scheuermann Advance to Finals at the YTF Invite

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern women's tennis team resumed action this past weekend, competing in the YTF Invite at the Beerman Family Tennis Center.

Florida Southern had their whole roster participate in the three-day competition with 10 Mocs competing in singles play. Elin Axler, Beatriz Costa and Kelly Klaren fell in the opening round, finding themselves in the consolation bracket with the rest of the Mocs making it to the round of 16.

In the consolation bracket Axler made the quarterfinal, Klaren made it to the semifinal and Costa just fell short of redemption, losing in the consolation final .

In the round of 16 Kennedi Brown, Vivien Charvatova, Emily Jennewein and Annike Berrendorf were knocked out of singles competitions. Berrendorf was knocked out by fellow Moccasin Jolie Miller in 3 sets. Miller then met the end of singles play in the next round.

Two Mocs still remained in the main round in No. 1 seeded Olivia Bryant and No. 2 seeded Ronja Scheuermann. Olivia Bryant received a first round bye, which she took advantage of, fending off every opponent in two sets enroute to an appearance in the final where she met with her teammate Ronja Scheuermann.

Scheuermann had a dominant run to the final not allowing opponents a single point until the quarterfinal round where she continued to cruise past opponents on her way to the final, handling them all in 2 sets. Scheurmann and Bryant will face off later this week for the final match to decide the Women's Singles Champion.

Florida Southern saw similar success in doubles play with three out of the five duos having first round byes, and every duo making it through the first round of competition.

Miller and Bazilevych made it up until the semifinal with Charvatova and Berrendorf battling their way to the quarter final. Brown and Kelly, who started the competition with a bye, found the most success, making it to the final before falling to a pair from Saint Petersburg College 8-1.

Florida Southern will have one more competition before the new year when they host FSC Playday Nov. 2 and 3 at Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
