WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's tennis team won its first match of 2024 after a 6-1 conference win over Palm Beach Atlantic University Saturday afternoon at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
The Mocs (1-2, 1-1 SSC) dominated the courts with a doubles win and nearly all of the singles flights. The Sailfish (0-4, 0-3 SSC) managed a doubles flight win and a single court win but not enough for a 6-1 loss to the Mocs.
In doubles,
Chris Fok Kow and
Matteo Feggi returned to pairing for a big 6-1 win at the No. 1 court. On court No. 3,
George Russell and
Ryan Rajakar paired for a shutout 6-0 victory to seal the doubles point. On court two,
Mario Garoz and
Inaki Braun Simo lost 6-3.
For singles, FSC won all but court one among the six flights. Both Fok Kow and Garoz won their courts 6-3, 6-3. Feggi was a court No. 5 winner with a 6-1, 6-2 score and
Elliott Altman won his court 6-4, 6-2. Braun Simo outlasted his opponent with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 set-three match. At the No. 1 court, Russell lost his flight in three, but Mocs win 6-1 on the road.
The Mocs will return to Lakeland and host Bates College for its home opener of 2024 on Thursday, Feb. 22, set for a 3 p.m. start.
