WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Florida Southern College women's tennis team earned its first Sunshine State Conference win of the 2024 season on Saturday morning as the Moccasins (1-2) defeated Palm Beach Atlantic University (1-5) 5-2 in West Palm Beach.
Florida Southern lost the doubles point with the only win in doubles coming in the No. 3 duo of
Olivia Bryant and
Jolie Miller as they defeated the Sailfish 6-1.
In singles, FSC swept the first five matches to finish, and #1
Laia Pasini won with a quick 6-1, 6-2 decision. Bryant had a big 6-2, 6-0 win at the #3 court, and
Vivien Charvatova had a 6-3, 6-3 win at #4. Miller and
Kelly Klaren rounded out the Moccasin court victories with tiebreakers as Miller dropped the first set 3-6, before winning the next two 6-3, 7-5 in the #5 singles. Klaren took home the win in the #6 singles with a 6-7 (6) score in the first set and followed with a 6-2, 6-3 to seal the win for FSC.
Beatriz Costa was unable to win at #2 with a tight 6-7 (5), 7-5 [10-6] (9-5) loss to Simona Karlsson at the #2 court.
The Mocs return to action on Feb. 21 as they host Embry-Riddle in another SSC matchup at home. The first serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
