#2 Mocs Cruise Past Chargers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - No. 2 Florida Southern continues its hot start to the season with a third straight 20-plus-goal game as the Moccasins cruised past the University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers, 20-5 Sunday afternoon at the Charger Park.

Jackie Stoller led the offense with six goals for Florida Southern (3-0) and three assists, for a game-high nine points. Abby McFerren finished right behind Stoller with six points on four goals and two assists. Olivia Manghisi netted a pair of goals ahead of Sabrina Diaz, Danielle Mojsej, Madison Tare, Ellie Griffin, Kelsey Bennett, Olivia Gianakos, Maria Reeves, and Camden Frissora all contributing one goal to the score.

Isadora Springer led the offense for the Chargers (3-2) with a goal and an assist, putting her at two points for the game. Margaret Wheatley, Maya Bronson, Megan Robertson, and Shannon Finch also found the back of the net, each scoring a point for the Chargers.

McKenzie Gaghan started in net and switched out with Rylie Rittberg for the third and fourth quarters. Rittberg led the defense with two saves for the Mocs in 30 minutes of action.

Florida Southern started the first frame swinging, mounting a relentless offense and finishing the first frame with an eight-point lead.

Going into the second frame up 9-1, the Mocs continued their offensive and put another six tallies up on the board. The first half of the game ended with the Mocs leading 15-2 and the Chargers struggling to keep up.

The third quarter turned up the heat as both teams vied to maintain control of the ball and the field. Florida Southern's offensive slowed after their domination in the first half, but the Chargers couldn't find their footing despite the lull. The third frame concluded with the Mocs leading 18-3 heading into the final frame.

Florida Southern's defense continued to hold, despite UAH's best efforts to control the ball. The Mocs put an additional two tallies on the board and brought it to an insurmountable 15-goal lead over the Chargers, and came out victorious, 20-5.

The next game on the docket is a home game, pitting #2 Florida Southern against #6 Adelphi University (1-0) at Berend Field on Feb. 25 at 5 p.m.
