LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern College women's tennis team captured a 6-1 win over the visiting Michigan Tech Huskies (2-7) to improve to 3-6 on the young season.
Florida Southern won the doubles point with wins from No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams as
Kennedi Brown and
Kelly Klaren won 6-2, while
Ronja Scheuermann and
Jolie Miller sealed the doubles point with a 6-4 win. The No. 3 doubles was a close battle as
Vivien Charvatova and
Neli Sunjic forced a tiebreaker but fell to the Huskies 7-6 (7-4).
In singles, FSC swept the first three matches to finish, with #1
Laia Pasini leading the way with a 6-0, 6-1 final.
Olivia Bryant had a big 6-2, 6-3 win at the #3 court, and Charvatova would capture the fourth point to give the Mocs the win with a 6-3, 6-0 final. #5 court of Scheuerman captured the extra point for FSC with a 6-1, 6-3 win before Brown earned the final point with a dominating 6-3, 6-0 win.
Beatriz Costa was unable to win at #2 with a tight 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) loss to Emily Cojocaru.
The Mocs hit the road for spring break as they travel up to Hilton Head, S.C. to face four teams. They open up action against Tiffin on Saturday, March 2 with a 4:00 p.m. first serve.
