Women’s Tennis Falls in Close Match Against Tiffin

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Florida Southern women's tennis suffers a narrow 4-3 defeat against Tiffin University while on the road Saturday evening in Hilton Head S.C.

The Mocs(3-6, 1-3 SCC) lost the point in the doubles with the Tiffin University Dragons (7-1) putting up a strong showing on the court. The Dragons won three singles matches, allowing that early point to tip the scales in their favor for a 4-3 victory.

Florida Southern gave a good showing in the doubles with the No.2 pairing of Kennedi Brown and Kelly Klaren landing a 6-3 win against Tiffin. The No.3 pairing had the win slip away from the Mocs as players Jolie Miller and Ronja Scheuermann took it to a tie-breaker before ultimately falling to the Dragons, 7-6. The No.1 pair of Laia Pasini and Beatriz Costa suffered an unfortunate 6-2 loss.

The Mocs enjoyed the first court win in the singles with No.1 as Pasini earned a 6-3,6-1 win over her Dragons opponent. Tiffin followed up after with a court win in No.2, pulling ahead of the Mocs in a third set. Brown in No.6 finished up next with a close 6-4, 7-5 victory. The Dragons took their second court win shortly afterward in No.4. Florida Southern's Olivia Bryant finished another close matchup against the Dragons in No.3 with a narrow 7-6, 6-4 win. With both teams tied up 3-3, the fate of the matchup rested on the No.5 matchup between Florida Southern's Vivien Charvatova versus Tiffin's Jessica Peace. Peace narrowly took the first set in a close tie-breaker match then took the second set by storm with a final score of 6-1. Despite the loss, the Mocs fought well in a close game.

The Moccasins will remain in Hilton Head to face the second of four teams, playing against Lake Superior State University on Sunday bright and early with a 9 a.m. first serve.
