LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's tennis team opened the 2024 spring season with day one of competition in the FSC Invite on Saturday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
The Moccasins, which are receiving votes in the ITA Preseason Poll, hosted St. Pete College, No. 4 Flagler College, and Rollins College in a season-opening competition. This was the second straight FSC Invite hosted by the women's team.
Day one of the competition began with doubles competition with great showings by the Mocs.
Vivien Charvatova and
Ronja Scheuermann teamed for a dominating 6-0 win against their Rollins opponents, as did
Laia Pasini and
Beatriz Costa with a 6-3 win themselves against the Tars. A third Moccasin doubles pairing,
Jolie Miller and
Karina Bazilevych, also took the court but fell to Rollins in a nail-biting 7-6 (4) flight.
In singles,
Olivia Bryant led the Mocs with two flight wins during the day. Bryant, a senior from Gainesville, Fla., won her match against Flagler 6-1, 6-1, and followed with a win against her St. Pete opponent 6-3, 6-3. Miller also had a court win against Rollins in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep.
FSC had a successful afternoon with several wins alongside Bryant. Pasini recovered from a morning singles loss to beat SPC 6-3, 6-2, as did Scheuermann,
Kelly Klaren, and
Kennedi Brown. Brown held her opponent scoreless with a 6-0, 6-0 score, with Scheuermann a two-set winner in 6-4, 6-3, and Klaren outlasted her opponent with a 7-6 (0), 6-2 final.
