Mocs Open 2024 with a Successful Day One of the FSC Invite

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's tennis team opened the 2024 spring season with day one of competition in the FSC Invite on Saturday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.

The Moccasins, which are receiving votes in the ITA Preseason Poll, hosted St. Pete College, No. 4 Flagler College, and Rollins College in a season-opening competition. This was the second straight FSC Invite hosted by the women's team.

Day one of the competition began with doubles competition with great showings by the Mocs. Vivien Charvatova and Ronja Scheuermann teamed for a dominating 6-0 win against their Rollins opponents, as did Laia Pasini and Beatriz Costa with a 6-3 win themselves against the Tars. A third Moccasin doubles pairing, Jolie Miller and Karina Bazilevych, also took the court but fell to Rollins in a nail-biting 7-6 (4) flight.

In singles, Olivia Bryant led the Mocs with two flight wins during the day. Bryant, a senior from Gainesville, Fla., won her match against Flagler 6-1, 6-1, and followed with a win against her St. Pete opponent 6-3, 6-3. Miller also had a court win against Rollins in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep.

FSC had a successful afternoon with several wins alongside Bryant. Pasini recovered from a morning singles loss to beat SPC 6-3, 6-2, as did Scheuermann, Kelly Klaren, and Kennedi Brown. Brown held her opponent scoreless with a 6-0, 6-0 score, with Scheuermann a two-set winner in 6-4, 6-3, and Klaren outlasted her opponent with a 7-6 (0), 6-2 final.

The Mocs are scheduled to have another full day of tennis tomorrow, Feb. 4, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. Keep track of FSC Mocs on social media and fscmocs.com for the latest information on schedule changes, results, and more.
