SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's tennis team lost its season opener to No. 3 Saint Leo University Wednesday night at the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
The Mocs (0-1, 0-1 SSC) had two court wins in singles but could not finish in the 5-2 loss. The Lions (3-0, 1-0 SSC) won the doubles point and outlasted FSC in two courts for the conference win.
In doubles, FSC lost at the #2 and #3 courts as
Mario Garoz and
Matteo Feggi lost 6-2.
Inaki Braun-Simo and
Matthew Hewitt had the No. 3 duties and lost 6-3. At the No. 1 position,
Chris Fok Kow and
George Russell had their court unfinished with the doubles point secured to the Lions.
Florida Southern had two wins in singles, led by Fok Kow in a lengthy three-set battle. After down 6-0 in the first set, Fok Kow rallied for two straight set wins 6-3, 7-5. Garoz had the other Moccasin court win with a 7-5, 6-1 win and a great victory. However, the two court wins were the end for the Mocs with losses at No. 1, 4, 5, and 6.
The Mocs will continue their road schedule to face No. 4 Flagler on Saturday, set for a 2 p.m. start in St. Augustine.
