SAINT LEO, Fla. - The RV Florida Southern College women's tennis team opened Sunshine State Conference action on Thursday afternoon as the Moccasins (0-1) battled till the end but fell to No.5 Saint Leo 4-3.

"Good fight, just not quite enough today," stated head women's tennis coach,
Trish Riddell. "We are motivated to keep working so that we can win many battles in the future. Plenty of tennis still to be played."Â

The Mocs fought hard in doubles as the No.1 pairing of
Laia Pasini and
Beatriz Costa barely slipped away from the win, in a 6-4 loss. In the No. 2 pairing,
Kennedi Brown, and
Jolie Miller dominated the court finishing with a 7-5 winner. The No. 3 duo
Vivien Charvatova and
Ronja Scheuermann couldn't convert their efforts and fell 6-1 as the doubles point went to the Lions.Â

Florida Southern led the way, as Scheuermann had a quick 6-0, 6-0 decision in No. 4 singles.
Olivia Bryant had another quick win for the Mocs, as Bryant defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-4 in No. 3 singles. The final win for FSC came in the No.1 slot as Pasini rallied to a three-set win, with a score of 6-3, 6-0, 7-6.Â

The Mocs return to action on Feb. 13 as they host No. 2 Nova Southeastern in another SSC matchup at home. The first serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
