LAKELAND Fla. – The Florida Southern women's tennis team faced off against the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks Wednesday afternoon, leaving the courts with a 4-1 victory at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
Florida Southern (6-7, 1-3 SSC) swept through the doubles, winning the early point before moving on to the singles against #48 Indiana U of Pennsylvania (4-4, 0-0 PSAC).
In the doubles, Ronja Scheuermann and Jolie Miller teamed up to take down their opponents with a 6-1 victory on the No. 3 court. In No.2 doubles, Laia Pasini and Neli Sunjic swept past their competition with a 6-1 win. Lastly the No.1, duo Kennedi Brown and Kelly Klaren earned a hard-fought victory in the first court, winning the tiebreaker for a 7-6 victory.
Going into the singles, the Mocs took their first win in No.1, with Pasini triumphing over her Crimson Hawk opponent 7-5, 6-2. Next to finish was Scheurmann in No.3 with a close 7-6, 6-4 court win for the Mocs. The No.5, Brown took it to the third set before falling to the Crimson Hawks 6-2, 7-5, 6-4. Senior Olivia Bryant completed the Mocs' clincher in No.2 in an intense second set, winning 6-2, 7-6 and securing the winning point.
The Moccasins return to action on Saturday, March 16 for another home game, facing off against Emporia State University. The first serve is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
