#15 Mocs Fall to #8 Buccaneers in SSC Quarterfinal

FSC will await an opportunity at an NCAA regional bid with selections on May 5

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 15 Florida Southern College men's tennis team fell by a 4-0 score against No. 8 Barry University in the Sunshine State Conference quarterfinal Friday afternoon at the Beerman Family Tennis Complex.

The Mocs (15-8) lost doubles and split a few sets among the singles field, but were unable to come up with a court win in the 4-0 loss. The Buccaneers (12-6) continued their win streak over the Moccasins with a clinched match and will move on to the SSC semifinal to face Rollins tomorrow afternoon.

Florida Southern had a tough doubles competition that nearly resulted in a point. The #2 court of No. 18 Buccaneers pairing versus Bosko Boskovic and Inaki Braun Simo lost 6-3 but the #1 court had a strong fight. No. 17 Chris Fok Kow and Mario Garoz against No. 45 Joao Ferreria and David Rieme set the flight into a tiebreak, but FSC lost 7-6 (7-3) as the #3 court went unfinished at a 5-5 tie.

Down by a team point, FSC sent the flights into a third set on four of the six courts with a split first two sets. Braun Simo lost at #4 by a 6-0, 6-1 score, as did George Russell against No. 11 Ferreria 6-3, 6-1. Gabriel Jornert lost his first set but rallied for a 6-0 second set, only to lose in set three 6-3 as the match point went to the Buccaneers. Other singles courts included Boskovic at #5 with a set one win and tied third set as the finish. Garoz won the second set to send to a third set before the match was called, as was #2 court with Fok Kow against No. 8 Adam Lynch with a 5-5 third set tie when the Bucs won.

The Mocs will await a chance at an NCAA regional bid with postseason selections on Sunday, May 5, and will be played May 10-14 at non-predetermined sites.
