Men's Soccer Opens Action in Tennessee With 2-1 Win Over CBU

Moffat scores two more goals to lead the Mocs with five goals on the year

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Another multi-goal game by Darcy Moffat led Florida Southern College men's soccer to a 2-1 win over Christian Brothers on Friday afternoon in Memphis, Tenn.

The Moccasins (2-0-1) outshot the Buccaneers (2-1-0) in the second half with two goals in the final 15 minutes by Moffat. CBU managed one goal in the last seven minutes, but FSC walked away with the 2-1 victory.

Both teams started aggressively to open the weekend as the Mocs keeper Joe O'Shaughnessy had an early save to keep the game scoreless. Matthew Male answered back with a shot for FSC allowing both teams to put up early shots within the first 10 minutes of action.

The Buccaneers controlled the majority of the first half as O'Shaughnessy laid out for two consecutive saves from Alexander Blanche. For FSC, Male and Moffat led the offense in the first 30 minutes with two shots from Male and one from Moffat.

With time dwindling in the last 10 minutes of action, Sander Trevor comes in off the bench and quickly puts a shot on goal for the Mocs with the shot just high and to the left.

After the halftime break, Christian Brothers came out with shots firing with two shots by the Buccaneer forwards. The Mocs returned shots of their own as Male found an opening to send his third shot right into the keeper's hand.

In the 55th minute, FSC subbed in to bring in Mathias Kjølner making quick work with a shot and shot on goal just finding the Bucs keeper Jakob Morales stretched high for the save. In the following minute, Olaf Kramer from CBU attacked and O'Shaughnessy stretched out for another Mocs save to keep the game scoreless.

With just under 15 minutes left in regulation, Trevor found the foot of Moffat to put the Mocs on the board for the first goal of the game at the 75:32 mark. The Buccaneers continued pressure looking to tie as they drew a foul in the box to send George Chandler to the line for the penalty kick. A missed shot from CBU left FSC on top and Dylan Lowther quickly drew a foul in the box sending Moffat to the line.

Moffat who has been hot on the pitch for the past several games sank the goal giving the Mocs a 2-0 lead from a made penalty.

The clock continued to wind down and two yellow cards and a foul on FSC allowed Christian Brothers to score to come within one goal but FSC held on to take the first road win of the season with a 2-1 win.

In the second half, the Mocs outshot the Bucs 8-to-5 to win the game with both teams ending with five shots on goal. In goal, O'Shaughnessy was just shy of a clean sheet but came away with four saves while the CBU keeper Morals had three saves. A very intense competition between the two teams saw FSC on top with 12 shots to CBU 11 while the Buccaneers finished with seven corners to the Mocs one.

Florida Southern returns to Signaigo Field on Sunday, Sept. 15 with another matchup in Memphis, this time facing the Statesmen of Delta State in an 11:00 a.m. kickoff.
