ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Florida Southern College women's soccer (4-1-2, 1-1-1 SSC) suffered its first loss of the season as Eckerd College (2-2-3, 1-0-2 SSC) secured a narrow 1-0 victory at Johnson Field on Wednesday night.
Florida Southern opened the first half with
Carly Brodsky in goal, maintaining a solid defensive stance against the Tritons.
Rilee Hasegawa generated an offensive opportunity with a shot on goal in the 14th minute, but it was saved by Eckerd's Zoe Brasher. The half was marked by tight defense from both sides, with the Moccasins managing to keep the Tritons from converting any shots into goals. The first half concluded with a 0-0 scoreline, as both teams held firm defensively.
The second half began with a significant opportunity for Florida Southern, as
Isabella Payne took an early shot, though it went over the top. The Mocs maintained pressure, earning a penalty kick midway through the period, but the attempt was saved by Eckerd's Zoe Brasher, keeping the match level.
Eckerd shifted the momentum in the 77th minute when Kailani Casazza scored, assisted by Anaya Thomas, giving the home team a 1-0 advantage. Despite continued efforts from Mocs, including defensive stops and offensive pushes, the half concluded with the Tritons holding onto their lead, ending the game with a score of 1-0.
Brodsky played all 90 minutes as goalkeeper, facing nine shots and allowing one goal. Payne attempted one shot during the match. Hasegawa contributed with one shot on goal.
Eckerd's Brasher registered two saves while maintaining a shutout throughout the full 90 minutes. Thomas provided the team's lone assist, as Casazza delivered the decisive goal for the first SSC win by the Tritons this season.
Looking ahead, FSC is set to host Palm Beach Atlantic University on Senior Night, this Saturday, October 4, at 7 p.m. The match will take place at Berend Field in Lakeland, Fla., with a pregame ceremony honoring the seniors at 6:40 p.m.
