Mocs Shine at YTF Invite with Deep Runs in Singles and Doubles Play

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's tennis team continued its fall tournament slate with a strong showing at the annual YTF Invite, hosted by Southeastern University over the weekend.

All ten Moccasins competed across singles and doubles draws, including Josie Holderbach, Ronja Scheuermann, Annika Berrendorf, Emily Jennewein, Jolie Miller, Kennedi Brown, Elena Samuelsson, Realtin Stara, Elona Simonov, and Elin Axler.

In singles action, Holderbach led the way for the Mocs, advancing to the finals after an impressive run of four consecutive wins before withdrawing from the championship match. She opened the weekend with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory over Saint Leo's Madelyn Martin and followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Southeastern's Isabella Boliva Garces. Holderbach battled through a tiebreaker win against Nicola Casa in the quarterfinals (6-2, 5-7, 10-5) and closed her semifinal match with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win to finish the tournament undefeated.

Several other Mocs found early success, advancing past the opening round, including Brown (5-7, 7-5, 13-11), Berrendorf (6-3, 6-1), Jennewein (6-0, 6-1), and Scheuermann (6-2, 6-0). Jennewein continued her momentum, defeating St. Petersburg's Daniela Garcia 6-1, 6-2 in the round of 16 and Eryka Kru 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals before falling in the semifinals.

Berrendorf and Scheuermann each advanced to the quarterfinals as well. Berrendorf earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Martina Picardi, while Scheuermann fought through a thrilling 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, (10-7) victory over Linn Eriksson Sundling before bowing out in the quarters.

In doubles play, the Mocs dominated the brackets, highlighted by an all-Florida Southern final. The duo of Miller and Berrendorf powered their way through the field with wins over Flagler's Waechter and Lomenzo (8-1), Axelsson and Presley (8-6), and Chebli and Kulidjian (8-3) to reach the championship match. On the other side of the draw, Brown and Axler cruised past Southeastern's Do Lago and Erickson (8-1), Konrad and Liverani (8-3), and advanced after a semifinal withdrawal to set up the all-Moccasin showdown in the final. The final will be played later this week!

Florida Southern will return home to host the FSC Fall Scramble on Nov. 1–2 in Lakeland.
