Mocs Defense Holds Strong in 0-0 Draw Against No. 24 Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. — Florida Southern College men's soccer and the No.24 University of Tampa played to a scoreless draw on Wednesday at Pepin Stadium. Florida Southern's defense held strong, with their goalkeeper making two crucial saves to preserve the shutout.

The match began with both the Moccasins (4-5-2, 1-4-1 SSC) and the Spartans (5-2-4, 1-2-3 SSC) showing strong defensive efforts. Daniel Shabani tested Tampa's defense early with a shot in the second minute, but it went over the top. Tim Baierlein also contributed with two attempts, one of which was saved by Tampa's goalkeeper, Alex Hare, in the 28th minute.

Florida Southern maintained pressure with multiple shots and corner kicks, yet Tampa's defense held firm. Shabani had another opportunity on target in the 33rd minute, but Hare made a crucial save. The first half concluded with both teams scoreless, with the Mocs keeping the pressure on but unable to break through the Spartans' defense.

The second half commenced with Hector Oliver's shot for the Moccasins saved by Tampa's goalkeeper, Alex Hare, at the 45:43 mark. FSC maintained offensive pressure with multiple attempts, including shots from Oliver and Paul Hansen, but both efforts were thwarted by the defense.

Lasse Dettmer made a crucial save against a shot from Tampa's Christian Fairchild in the 76th minute, keeping the score level. The Spartans attempted to break through with a late shot in the 89th minute, but Dettmer again preserved the draw. The match concluded with neither team finding the net, resulting in a 0-0 draw as the final whistle blew.

Dettmer recorded a shutout with two saves, ensuring that the team secured a clean sheet. Oliver was active offensively, leading with two shots on goal. Shabani managed two shots, with one being on target. Baierlein also contributed with two shots, one of which was on goal.

Alex Hare played a crucial role as the goalkeeper, recording four saves during the match and securing a shutout. Cherif Tammar was active in the midfield, taking two shots, although none were on target. Felix Poschmann contributed offensively with two shots, one of which was on goal. Fairchild also made an impact with a shot on goal, his only attempt during the game.

Up next for the Mocs, they will host Florida Tech on October 18 at 7 p.m. at Berend Field in Lakeland, Fla.
