Brodsky Sets Program Record For Single Season Shutouts with Draw Against Tampa

Brodsky recorded her ninth shutout of the 2025 season, setting a new program record

LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern College women's soccer (7-1-3, 3-1-2 SSC) and the University of Tampa (5-3-2, 3-2-1 SSC) battled to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night at Berend Field, with the Moccasins' defense recording a shutout led by five saves.

Carly Brodsky led the Moccasins in goal, recording her ninth shutout of the 2025 season, setting a new program record of shutouts by a single goalkeeper in a single season. The record was previously held by Jenny Staten in 2023. The nine clean sheets also tied a program record of total team shutouts in a season (1 combined and eight individual shutouts in 2023).

The opening period saw Florida Southern establishing their defensive presence early, with Brodsky making crucial saves, including a key stop against Kendall Gouner's shot in the 13th minute. Despite UTampa's offensive pressure, the Moccasins' defense held firm throughout the period.

Offensively, Florida Southern managed their own attempts, notably with a shot by Megan Rhonemus in the 37th minute, which was saved by Tampa's Lia Doohan. The Moccasins concluded the period with a solid defensive stand, maintaining a scoreless draw at the end of the first half.

The second period began with Florida Southern's Brodsky playing a crucial role in the defensive half, making key saves in the 48th and 57th minutes to deny UTampa's scoring opportunities. Florida Southern applied pressure with multiple corner kicks, notably at the 51st and 74th minutes, and created chances with shots from Rhonemus and Aliya Roberts, although these attempts did not find the target.

As the period continued, Florida Southern's Isabella Payne saw her effort saved in the 87th minute, maintaining the scoreline. UTampa's efforts to break through were thwarted by Brodsky, who continued to make pivotal saves, including one in the 88th minute. The period closed with the score remaining level at 0-0, highlighting a strong defensive showing from the Mocs.

Brodsky recorded five saves in a shutout performance, facing 15 shots to maintain a clean sheet for the program record. Her nine shutouts rank fourth in NCAA DII women's soccer and first in the Sunshine State Conference. Payne managed to keep the pressure on with one shot on goal. Rhonemus contributed offensively by taking two shots, both on target, adding to the team's attacking efforts.

Doohan was in goal for the Spartans, recording two saves to secure a shutout in her 90 minutes of play. On the offensive end, Sydni Dennis led the Spartans with three shots. Ally Wold matched Dennis in attempts, also registering three shots with one on target. Kaylee Gibson and Lilly Nava each contributed with one shot on goal.

In their next game, Florida Southern College will travel to Melbourne, Fla., to face Florida Tech at Rick Stottler Field. The match is set for October 18, with play beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
